Inter condo Friendly Regentville versus Rivervale
After a long absence from competitive play, the Regentville tennis team finally decided to organize a friendly tennis match with another team. The last friendly was against team TFN way back in February, so this was a long awaited game for many of our players. We were not scheduled to have any matches so soon, I was planning to organize one but was constantly held back due to work commitments and injury.
BK started the ball rolling this time by asking the Rivervale condo tennis team based in Sengkang if they were interested in a friendly. Albert, their team organizer got back to him expressing their interest. Serene and me were then tasked to organize the friendly with the Rivervale Condo team. A date, 19 August, was finally set as Rivervale was missing a couple of players for earlier dates, so they were unable to commit sooner. Our priority was to be able to get most of our players available for one weekend so that everybody gets a chance to play in our first inter condo friendly tennis match between two close neighbouring condos, in Hougang and Sengkang. We missed Francis and "Big Ray" so we were lacking the "Big" hitting, power serving games of Ray and the guile and quickless of Francis who has one of the most dangerous slice serves in town.
The first leg was played at Regentville condo on Saturday 19th August. We played a total of 10 double matches (8 mens & 2 mixed) in a race to 9 games, no ad, sudden death format. At 8 games all regular tie break rules apply. I am please to say that out of all 10 matches Regentville condo managed to take 9 matches. Apart from two very tight matches (one going into a tie breaker) that went our way, and one close loss, we managed get some some convincing wins. A considerable feat, considering that most of the guys were pairing for the first time that day. I would like to congratulate the Regentville condo tennis players for an outstanding team effort and taking time off from their busy schedules to make this event a success. I would also like to thank Albert and Rivervale condo players as well as their family members for their support in this event. The next "away" game will be hosted by Rivervale, the date is yet to be determined but most likely sometime in the next couple of months. So check out the Regentville tennis blog for more details.
