Regentville vs Normanton Park

The Regentville tennis team hosted its fourth inter condo friendly tennis match of the year with the Normanton Park tennis team. The Normanton Park tennis team is based in the Western part of Singapore and are made up by a group of Filipino expats staying here in Singapore. We saw some familiar faces as some of the Normanton Park tennis players used to be very active with the Filipino Tennis Club. Their group has been founded several years ago lead by team organizer Richard Soliven who is a seasoned veteran in organizing tennis tournaments owing to his days being part of the original founding members of the Filipino Tennis Club. I had the pleasure of meeting Richard during our initial tennis friendly match with Regent Grove Condo earlier this year. With Richard’s help we aim to organize more inter condo/inter club friendly matches in the months to come and some plans have already been put on the drawing board to organize more matches in the near future.

Regentville versus Normanton Park Schedule of Play

Despite several days of bad weather owing to the year’s end monsoon season in Singapore, we were blessed with fine sunny weather which had plagued us for the last couple of friendly tennis matches that the Regentville tennis team had. The sunny weather was superb for a great inter condo tennis encounter between two very large tennis clubs. In all, I would have to say that this was the largest turn out so far in terms of players that have turn out for the Regentville friendly tennis matches. We had approximately close to about 40 to 50 players and family members who attended this match between the two teams.

We played a total of 12 doubles matches that were contested in a race to 6 games format. At 40 all (deuce) normal game rules applies but should the match go to a 2nd deuce “Sudden Death” ruling were to apply where the receiver will get to choose which side to receive from. At 6 games all, normal tiebreak rules apply. This format is to enable more quicker games giving all our players a chance to play more games. Most of the games were close and two of them had to be unfortunately decided in a gut wrenching tie breaker which also went down the wire. I was never a huge fan of tie breaks, as it now amounts more to nerves and luck than anything else to decide the winner. In all, we had a great session and enjoyed a great day of fun filled tennis. Great sporting spirit and camaraderie was observed between both tennis teams and I would like to commend both teams for their fantastic contribution to the game of amateur tennis here in Singapore.

Regentville & Normanton Park Players

I would like to thank Richard the organizer for the Normanton Park condo tennis team for helping organize this friendly, coordinating with all his players and making all the transport arrangements to get to Hougang. A big Thanks also goes to all the tennis players from Normanton Park as well as Regentville who have turned out in numbers to make this event a successful one.

Get Your Wrist Stronger.

The instructor told me that the cure to having the racquet wobble on my shots was to hit the ball in the sweet spot. well, that is a no brainer
A few racquet changes didn't do me any good and I figured that I'm always going to be off a bit on my contact point, so the only other
solution was to get a strong enough to fight the miss hits. A bit of reasearch brought me to the Gripstik wrist exerciser . No string and
weight stuff so easy to carry around in my bag. After about three weeks of following the guidelines(not much fun), I have noticed a definite
improvement in my gripping strength which translates to a more stable contact with the ball . I' m able to overcome the torque of missing
the sweet spot much better than before. Racquet speed also seems to be increasing a bit because of the oveball increase in my wrist and arm
strength .
